Oscar contender in “Best Documentary” and ten-times award-winning TORN FROM THE FLAG: A FILM BY KLAUDIA KOVACS just received an invite to Film Festival at the Corvin Theater. The event will take place in October 2026 in Hungary and is organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight. The showing will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the film’s director, Klaudia Kovacs, historians, survivors, and witnesses. The documentary’s second screening in the country will help introduce this uniquely evergreen and highly respected project to local audiences. The event-series is supported by Budapest Film, the City of Budapest, and the National Film Archive. At the opening, there will be speeches by Katalin Jánosi, the granddaughter of Imre Nagy, historian János M. Rainer, former director of the '56 Institute, and Budapest’s Mayor Gergely Karácsony. The festival’s director is Réka Pigniczky, co-founder and Pál Schiffer Prize-winning director of 56Films.

Klaudia Kovács recently taught a UCLA course: the class was about the Cold War and the 1956 Hungarian Revolution accompanied by the director’s Oscar contender and multi-award-winning film, TORN FROM THE FLAG. As the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Soviet Union and the 70th anniversary of Hungary’s freedom fight are approaching, there will be an international 70 for 70 series showcasing the documentary worldwide.
